Cambodian Foreign Ministry has rejected Thailand's claim that Ta Krabey (pictured) temple is a Thai temple and told Thailand that Ta Krabey is a Cambodian temple located in Cambodian territory, reports Radio France Internationale.
The Cambodian rejection came in the form of a reply to a Thai diplomatic note sent to the Cambodian Foreign Ministry which accused Cambodian troops of building sky cable baskets, or railings, up to the mountain where Ta Krabey temple is located, which it said is a Thai territory.
Cambodian troops have been building sky cable baskets or cabin rails to Ta Krabey temple, Preah Vihear temple and to Phnom Trop mountain top in order to facilitate supplies to Cambodian troops based in the areas. Thai troops have attempted to stop such works in the past claiming they infringe on Thai territorial integrity.
However, in a diplomatic note sent to the Thai Foreign Ministry on 30th April 2010, the Cambodian Foreign Ministry said that Ta Krabey temple is situated under the sovereignty of Cambodia under the Franco-Siamese Treaty in 1907. Secondly, based on the 1:50,000 scale maps agreed by the Cambodian-Thai Border Pillar Search Technical Team. And thirdly, even the unilaterally Thai drawn maps, which were not internationally recognised, have also put Ta Krabey temple inside Cambodian territory.
The Cambodian Foreign Ministry added that the sky cable basket has been built 500 metres from Ta Krabey temple so it shows clearly that both Ta Krabey temple and the sky cable basket are located well within Cambodian territory. "Cambodia categorically rejects the baseless accusations from the Thai Foreign Ministry. The sky cable baskets (cabin rails) leading up to the mountain top was built well within Cambodian territory at a distance of 500 metres from Ta Krabey temple", the Cambodian Foreign Ministry said in a reply to the Thai Foreign Ministry published in its website on 4th May which was quoted by Cambodian Express News.
