TripAdvisor has highlighted a summer sunrise in Angkor Archaeological Park as "worth losing sleep over".
(OPENPRESS) May 7, 2010 -- Holidaymakers staying in hotels in Siem Reap should rise early to catch the sun rising over Angkor Archaeological Park.
TripAdvisor recently named the Cambodian city - which is located near the park - as one of its top destinations to soak up some culture. A summer morning visit to the park, which contains several incredibly well-preserved temples, has been described by the travel advice site as "worth losing sleep over".
Angkor Archaeological Park covers an area of 400 square kilometres outside of Siem Reap and is home to dozens of ancient ruins - some of which date back to the 9th century. Among these is the legendary Angkor Wat, which is thought to have been constructed in the 12th century in honour of the Hindu god Vishnu.
It is here that the sunrise in the park is best observed - though holidaymakers are advised to arrive well in advance of the official sunrise time in order to see the temple silhouetted by the changing colours of the sky.
