Mr. Choung Chou-Ngy, lawyer for opposition leader Sam Rainsy (pictured), said he had received a letter from the Apeal Court informing him that it will hear Mr. Sam Rainsy's appeal case on 6th of July, reports Cambodian Express News.
Mr. Sam Rainsy was convicted and sentenced in absentia to 2 years jail by Svay Rieng Provincial Court on 27th January 2010 for uprooting border posts, but he lodged an appeal against the sentence. Two farmers who participated in the border post uprooting are currently in jail.
A few weeks ago, Mr. Choung Chou-Ngy made two proposals for court to provide border coordinates and the setting up of an ad hoc border committee to investigate the planting of border post number 185 on the Khmer-Vietnamese which his client said was planted in Cambodian territory or drop all charges against his client. However, on 18th May he said Investigating Judge Oeung Sieng rejected his all his proposals.
