Some Thai soldiers might have been killed or wounded during the two clashes on Saturday near border pillar number 14 near the border town of O'Smach in Oddar Meanchey province, reports Deum Ampil.

According to Deum Ampil, on Saturday morning, about 20 Thai soldiers crossed into Cambodian territory at around 8am. Gen. Chhum Socheat, spokesman for the Cambodian Defence Ministry, said the Cambodian soldiers demanded they return back to the Thai side of the border but they refused and the fighting ensued that lasted for 15 minutes. After the clash, Cambodian troops found two abandoned riffles, one helmet soaked with blood, one two-way radio and one knapsack containing many rounds of bullets. Cambodian soldiers assumed that 2 Thai soldiers may have been injured or killed in the first clash.

At around 9am, may be in an attempt to rescue the wounded or dead soldiers, the Thai side launched another attack on the Cambodian position by firing many rounds of mortars and M-79 rockets. The Cambodian side returned fires by firing heavy weapons, including nine B-40 rocket-proplled grenades, but unfortunately all the nine B-40 rockets did not explode. "If all the nine B-40 rockets exploded, all the Thai soldiers would have been killed", said Gen. Chhum Socheat.

O'Smach is a source of many armed confrontations between the two sides. In January 2009, 35 heavily-armed Thai soldiers forcibly entered 50 metres deep into Cambodian territory to stop Cambodian workers from constructing a fence in the area.

I feel sorry for our soldiers that they have to fight the Thais with outdated weapons that don't work, while the Thais have new and modern weapons. It looks like they would be massacred by the Thais in a real battle because all heavy weapons don't work. This is because all the new and modern weapons are stored and kept at Hun Sen's compound in Takhmao. It is a shame.
