Opposition leader Sam Rainsy has been summoned to appear before the Phnom Penh Court on 20th April to answer charges of falsifying documents and for spreading disinformation, reports Koh Santepheap.
Mr. Sam Rainsy was already sentenced in absentia to 2 years jail term for uprooting 6 wooden border stakes in late 2009. After his sentenced, he released a series of documents purporting to show Vietnamese encroachments of Cambodian borders. The Cambodian government lodged another lawsuit against him, claiming that the documents and maps he used were fake documents that have been forged.
On 9th March, Mr. Sam Rainsy was summoned to the same court hearing, but he only sent his defence lawyer to appear on his behalf which he had successfully applied for a delay in the hearing claiming that his client is still on a mission overseas. According to the court summon, this time Mr. Sam Rainsy must personally attend the court hearing. "In the case that the defendant failed to appear as summoned, the court will issue an arrest warrant", said the court summon.
