King Father Sihanouk (pictured) has issued a short message saying that he no longer publishes any letters sent to him from well-wishers in his monthly bulletin or website, reports Reaksmey Kampuchea.

In a short message in French released by the Royal Palace, the ex-king said the reason for the stoppage is because he is too frail from illness and old age. "I am too old and have serious health problems. I have retired for many years. I am honoured to inform (all compatriots) that I will no longer publish, in my monthly bulletin or website, any emails or fax messages etc, that have been sent to me or replied to my correspondences", the statement said.

Prince Sisowath Thomico, chief of Sihanouk's cabinet, has told Reaksmey Kampuchea that in fact the ex-king is not seriously ill, but he just want to remind those who love him not to send new year messages to him during the Khmer New Year. Prince Thomico said during the ex-king's stay in Cambodia, he is very pre-occupied with meeting the government leaders, foreign diplomats, his subjects as well as inaugurating many completed projects. "That's why his majesty doesn't like or have no time to reply to those friends, Khmers and foreigners alike. He has told them many times before not to send him any letters of best wishes", he said adding that the ex-king received hundreds of fax and email messages every month.

King Father Sihanouk abdicated from the throne in 2004 and retired from public life altogether. But from time to time, he had posted comments, mostly controversial, in his monthly bulletin or his website.
