14 Thai troops who had occupied a portion of Phnom Trop Mountain on 16th April has on Sunday, the 18th, afternoon agreed to withdraw from the area after tense negotiations, reports Radio France Internationale.

Gen. Chhum Socheat, spokesman for the Cambodian Defence Ministry, said after tense negotiations between Cambodian and Thai frontline commanders, those Thai troops have withdrawn by 2pm on Sunday. Gen. Chhum Socheat said the area where those Thai troops occupied is deemed a disputed zone where both sides earlier agreed not to deployment any troops there. He said, however, the Thai military sent the troops in to the area, which situated 5 kilometres west of Preah Vihear temple, at a time when the Cambodian troops are preparing to celebrate the Cambodian New Year.

Gen. Chhum Socheat added that the military situations along the borders, including O'Smach where two clashes took place on Saturday, remain calm.
