The Cambodian High Court has ordered the confiscation of a plot of lands owned by Mr. Son Chhay (pictured), an MP from the opposition Sam Rainsy Party (SRP), reports everyday.com.

According to the report, the High Court said Son Chhay's lands, located in the tourist town of Siem Reap, will be confiscated and given to the Apsara Authority because it said that the lands were located in areas which fall under the control of the Apsara Authority.

The Kampuchea Thmey Daily reports that the 3 hectare of prime lands will be confiscated on the 1st of April in accordance with the 13th February 2009's original court decision claiming that Mr. Son Chhay's lands are situated within the conservation areas of the Apsara Authority management zone. The Siem Reap Magistrate Court has already informed the three families living in and minding the plot of lands to vacate the areas within one week.

Kampuchea Thmey claimed that Mr. Son Chhay cannot be reached for comments at the time of this article going to press on Friday as a call to his phone has gone unanswered.

In early February 2008, Mr. Son Chhay, alleged that he was forced to sell his 3-hectare land in Siem Reap. His office alleged that the Apsara Authority, which is under the control of Deputy Prime Minister Sok An, had coerced the MP to sell his 3-hectare land to the Apsara Authority for the price of 50 cents per square metre. The same statement from Mr. Son Chhay’s office noted that the case will go to the Appeal Court on Friday 15th of February 2008. At that time, Mr. Son Chhay’s office has appealed to all journalists to be presence in the court session to observe how the Appeal Court will solve his case.
