Hang Chakra, the editor-in-chief of Khmer Mchas Srok jailed for allegedly defaming Deputy Prime Minister Sok An, could be released soon after Mr. Sok An, the plaintiff, hinted that he will withdraw his lawsuit again him, reports Deum Ampil.
Minister of Information Khieu Kanharith said he will discuss the issue of releasing Mr. Hang Chakra with the Ministry of Justice. He said he had met with the plaintiff Deputy PM Sok An and that he had agreed to withdraw his lawsuit on humanitarian ground.
Mrs. Sim Sourkea, Mr. Hang Chakra's wife, said she is very happy with the news of her husband's imminent release from prison.
Mr. Hang Chakra was convicted and sentenced to one year jail on 26th June 2009 for allegedly defaming Deputy PM Sok An when he published an article in the Khmer Mchas Srok saying that Mr. Sok An faced the sack by Prime Minister Hun Sen for allegedly involving in large scale corruption.
