The royalist Funcinpec Party, founded by ex-King Sihanouk, has quietly commemorated its 18th anniversary on 27-28 February in its former base along the Khmer-Thai borders in Oddar Meanchey province, reports everyday.com.
Mr. Thieng Vandarong, former Under-Secretary of State of Ministry of Information, said the party has commemorated its anniversary at the resistance former base in Trom village, Ampil commune in Banteay Ampil district of Oddar Meanchey province.
The commemoration ceremony was presided over by Mr. Lu Laysreng, the doyen of Funcinpec Party, in place of its current predient, Mr. Keo Put Rasmy.
Funcinpec was a French acronym for a resistance movement founded by the then Prince Sihanouk in 1981. In 1992, one year before Cambodia's general elections, it changed its status from a resistance front to a political party. In 1993, it won the election but lost control of the country when Mr. Hun Sen, the co-prime minister, launched a coup d'etat against the First Prime Minister Prince Ranariddh in 1997.

A pathetic group of people that have gone way pass their "used by date" and totally irrelevant now without appropriate political platform. Who bothers about these folks anymore nowadays?
It is good for them to acknowledge the sacrifices of those who died fighting for Cambodia, but these monkeys are the ones who destroyed Funcinpec as a party because of their stupidity and greed for personal fortunes. Funcinpec is dead now, it cannot be revived.
