Tourists flocked to ancient Kuhak Nokor temple

Tourism officials said that national and international tourists are flocking to visit Kuhak Nokor temple in Pong-Ro commune in Baray district of Kampong Thom province, reports Khmer Sthapana.

International tourists have come as far as Australia, Italy, Britain and France. As far as local tourists are concerned, they come as far as Phnom Penh and Battambang province.

Forty-five year-old Noy Tork, who along with 10 family members, come from Ek Phnom district in Battambang province, the home of the ancient Wat Ek Phnom temple. He said Prasat Kuhak Nokor is in better condition than Wat Ek Phnom and the surrounding forests and scenery are very beautiful.

Thirty-nine year-old Chhoeng Kimny, from Phnom Penh, said he feel very serene and relaxed during his visit to Kuhak Nokor temple.

Mr. Keo Lok, curator of Kuhak Nokor temple, said local and international tourists usually visit the temple at the weekend and during festive seasons. Mr. Keo, who can speak a fairly good English and French, showed Khmer Sthapana reporter the comments left in the guestbook by British, French, Italian and Australian tourists who all made very positive comments about the temple.

Prasat Kuhak Nokor was built by King Suryavarman I (1002-1050). The temple compound is 25 by 35 metres and was built using laterites. Inside the temple, there locate a library to keep all historical records of events occurred during the time.

Dear writter,

Kuha Norkor is different from Sambor Preikuk temple complex.

Kuha Norkor with the pictures you attached was built in laterite during the Angkorian period dated to the reign of king Suryavarman I while Sambor Preikuk is a temple complex were built in the pre-Angkorian period with most of construction are in bricks.
