Many Cambodian loggers have been brutally killed by Thai soldiers in the area. The fact that there are landmines in the area indicated that the territory falls under Cambodian sovereignty because there is no landmine in Thailand, but millions of landmines were laid in Cambodia during the civil war in the 1980s.
