After a brief armed clash on 29th January 2010 in which one Thai soldier was killed and several wounded, Thai commanders have requested for a peace talk, reports everyday.com.
According to Cambodian military sources, on 3rd February 2010, a convoy of 10 Thai military vehicles with 56 Thai commanders and troops based in Chantaburi and Trat provinces arrived at the borders requesting for talks with Cambodian Military Border Unit 501 and Cambodian Police Border Unit 825.
Mr. Men Meas, commander of Border Unit 501, said the meeting took place at his unit's headquarter. In the meeting the Thai side request for good military co-operations from the Cambodian military based along the borders of Battambang, Pailin, Pursat and Koh Kong provinces. He added that the Thai side want to ease border tensions and proposed that any tensions and confrontations by soldiers on the grounds must be resolved peacefully through talksby the commanders from both sides.
Mr. Med Meas said the Thai side admitted that the last clash on 29th January was the fault of the Thai side and the Thai side promised from now on to have good cooperations with the Cambodian military in the fight against drug trafficking, human trafficking and transnational weapon smuggling.
