A Thai national face court for crossing the borders to plant landmines in Cambodian territory

Cambodian Military Court has opened a court hearing against a 39 year-old Thai man accused of illegally entering Cambodian territory to plant landmines, reports everyday.com.

39 year-old Supharp Prakna wars arrested on 24th April 2009 three kilometres deep inside Khmer territory at Choam Sra-Ngam Pass in Anlong Veng district of Oddar Meanchey province carrying a number of landmines with him.

During the court hearing on the morning of 5th February 2010, Supharp confessed that he had planted landmines twice in Cambodia. The first time he had planted five landmines and those ladmines had all exploded already. On 24th April 2009, he attempted to illegally enter Cambodian territory again to plant more mines but he was arrested.

According to the report, no Thai consular representative was present at the court hearing, despite the Thai Embassy has been informed of the court session.

The military court judge, Gen. Pork Phorn, had adjourned the hearing and reserved his rights to deliver the verdict when the hearing recommences on 12th of February.
