There are reports from Siem Reap and Oddar Meanchey provinces that illegally logging is still very active, despite strong warnings from Prime Minister Hun Sen that those who illegally log in the Preah Vihear areas will be sacked from their positions regardless of who they are, reports Deum Ampil.

According to Deum Ampil, Chea Sophal, the son of commander of Military Region Four Gen. Chea Morn, is the main culprit who is actively logging in the areas in defiance of Mr. Hun Sen's warnings. The reports said that Chea Sophal's widespread logging activities take place in Sre Noy, Anlong Veng and Tropeang Prasat districts in Siem Reap and Oddar Meanchey provinces and that high grade woods and timbers are transported to Vietnam through Kampong Cham province.

Gen. Chea Morn is a powerful commander of Military Region Four who controls and oversees military operations in Siem Reap, Oddar Meanchey and Preah Vihear provinces.

Reports said that Chea Sophal received advance payments from Vietnamese timber traders and he used these money to bribe the local villagers to stay silent or pay them to go into the "disputed areas" to cut high grade woods where many of them were mercilessly killed by Thai soldiers.

On 6th February, during a visit to Preah Vihear areas, Prime Minister Hun Sen strongly warned that he will sack any anyone, even 4 or 5 star generals, from their positions if they continue to log in the areas.
