The UN Human Rights Rapporteur for Cambodia, Prof. Surya Subedi (pictured), told reporters on 2the morning of 3rd January that he will visit two jailed journalists, Mr. Hang Chakra and Mr. Ros Sokhet, to hear if they have anything to tell him, report RFA.
Mr. Hang Chakra, editor of Khmer Machas Srok newspaper, was sentenced to jail for 12 months for publishing articles critical of Deputy PM Sok An and Mr. Ros Sokhet, contributor for the South East Asia Globe magazine, was sentenced to 2 years jail for allegedly sending a text message threatening and extorting money from CTN TV anchorman and publisher of DAP News, Mr. Soy Sopheap.
Prof. Surya Subedi has visited the two jailed journalists in Preysor Prison located just outside Phnom Penh on the afternoon of Saturday 23rd January.
