Fifteen Thai troops have on Monday 18th crossed into Cambodian territory at Soksan village, O'Beichoan commune, O'Chrov district in Banteay Meanchey province, reports Radio Free Asia.

Mr. Sok Koy, chief of Prasath village, said at 9:30 am, 15 Thai soldiers came in and said they wanted to conduct a joint patrol with Cambodian soldiers. "15 of them came because they wanted to establish relations with Cambodian soldiers based in the area. They asked to conduct a joint mission (patrol), but they wanted to conduct the joint patrol inside Cambodian territory", he said.

Mr. Chhouk Ang, Commander of Brigade 911, said those Thai soldiers had been strongly asked to leave Cambodian territory. "They wanted to come and inspect Border Pillar number 48, but we didn't allow them, we chased them out. We didn't allow them in and we asked them to retreat back", he said.

Gen. Pol Sinuon (Pol Saroeun's nephew), Deputy Commander of the Office of Border Protection, said the agreement for the joint patrol is that Thai soldiers will patrol inside their territory and the Cambodian troops patrol inside Khmer territory. "Normally, when we conduct patrol, both sides walk inside their respective territories...The Thais will walk on the Thai side of the border and we walk on our side of the border......Joint patrol doesn't mean both sides patrol inside Khmer territory", he said.

Gen. Pol Sinuon said the Office of Khmer-Thai Border Relations is investigating the alleged Thai territorial violations.
