Cambodian and Thai troops have on Monday 25th clashed again at Akphiwat village, O'Smach district of Samrong town in Oddar Meanchey province, reports Deum Ampil.
The clash happened at 6:40 (am or pm?), when three drunken Thai soldiers crossed three times into Cambodian side of the borders, insulted at the Cambodian soldiers repeatedly and asked Cambodian soldiers to go and fight each other at Point 78 near border Pillar number 14. When the Cambodian soldiers did not respond, the Thai soldiers forced their way into Cambodian territory again and repeatedly insulted the Cambodian soldiers again. The Cambodian soldiers got upset then fired three times at them after which they stopped insulting at the Cambodian soldiers.
Witnesses said when the Cambodian soldiers shot at them, the Thai soldiers duck for cover and has no time to shoot back.
Deum Ampil was unable to speak with Mr. Mao Sim, deputy commander of Region 78, directly because he was unavailable. However, his wife, who picked up the phone call, has confirmed that "there was an incident of shooting between Cambodian and Thai troops".
"The shooting was a misunderstanding after the Cambodian side received a report that 6 villagers from Akphiwat village, O'Smach district in Samrong town of Oddar Meanchey went missing", she said.
The latest armed clash between Thai and Cambodian soldiers happened one day after the eruptions of two brief clashes on Sunday 24th at Choam Te, 20 kilometres from Preah Vihear temple, that resulted in the wounding of two Thai soldiers.
