Thai border soldiers join Red Shirt protesters against Abhisit government?

By Khmerization

There are reports that paramilitary and voluntary rangers based along the Khmer-Thai borders in Sisaket province planned to join the upcoming Red Shirt rally on 10 December, reports everyday.com.

The reports said that paramilitary and rangers who are loyal to Gen. Chavalit Yongchaiyudh (pictured) and Mr. Thaksin will come out of their barracks and join the Red Shirt protesters to topple the Abhisit government.

Gen. Chavalit denied the reports by saying that, although he has a good relationaship with, and the loyalty from, those paramiliatry and rangers, it would be impossible for them to come out of their barracks to join the protests.

In a related development, The Nation also reported that Maj-General Khattiya Sawasdipol, an ardent supporter of ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra, has warned the authorities that a number of volunteer rangers would be backing the red shirts.

Khattiya also warned that violence might break out during the rally, and incidents similar to the bomb attack at a yellow-shirt demonstration might take place.

A number of volunteer rangers, including those discharged from the paramilitary service, have been serving as guards for rally organisers.

Suthep, meanwhile, downplayed Khattiya's statement saying he had not received any reports about defence volunteers joining the red-shirt rally, adding that the authorities would keep a close eye on any movements that might threaten the nation's security.

If it is true then Thailand will head for internal unrest sooner rather than later.

It might be true because Thaksin and Chavalit have many followers in the army because Thaksin was former police officer and Chavalit was army general.

And many army and police officers are still loyal to them.
