SRP needs permission from Vietnam to visit border areas

By Khmerization

The Governor of Svay Rieng province, Mr. Cheam Om, said the MPs from the opposition Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) must get permission first from the Svay Rieng provincial authority and Vietnam before they can visit the Khmer-Vietnam border areas to witness the plantings of the demarcation poles, reports Deum Ampil.

Mr. Cheam Om's comments came after the SRP MPs had written a letter to National Assembly President Heng Samrin informing him that they intend to visit border areas in Chantrea district in Svay Rieng province on Monday 14th December where party president Sam Rainsy led 100 villagers to uproot six border poles on 25th October they accused of illegally planted in the middle of the rice-fields belonging to Cambodian farmers.

Mr. Om said that if Vietnam objected to their visit, the SRP MPS cannot visit the areas. He also said that, so far, the provincial authority had not received any written request to visit the areas from the opposition SRP yet.

Mrs. Mu Sochua (pictured), SRP MP from Kampot, strongly reacted to Mr. Om's comments by saying that every MP has every right to visit any place inside Khmer territories without any restriction. She added that regardless of whether the permission is granted or not, the 20 or SRP MPs will go ahead with the planned visit to the areas.

So far, three SRP are without their parliamentary immunity after the Cambodian People's Party-dominated National Assembly voted to strip off their immunity. Mr. Ho Van and Mrs. Mu Sochua had been stripped off their parliamentary immunity on 22nd June, Mr. Ho Vann sued by 22 military officers and Mu Sochua counter-sued her for defamation. SRP president, Mr. Sam Rainsy, was stripped off his parliamentary immunity on 16th November for his role in the uprooting of six demarcation poles on 25th October.

The areas are located in Khmer territories, why any Khmer need to get permission from Vietnam to visit the areas? This is ridiculous- is Cambodia a colony of
Vietnam or what?

This prove that the ruling CPP or the Cambodian government or Vietnam has something to hide. It means Vietnam had encroached on Khmer lands.
