King Crown Casino at Bavet bankrupt

About 400 Cambodian and foreign staff of King Crown Casino (pictured) at Bavet town in Svay Rieng province on the Khmer-Vietnamese border have staged a protest to demand their pay as they lost their jobs without getting paid as the casino had gone into bankruptcy, reports Koh Santepheap.

According a source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said King Crown Casino had closed its door on 2nd December at 11 am without informing its staff and patrons in advance, causing a chain of reactions from staff and patrons.

The Casino's manager told staff to calm down and not stir up or they will lose their jobs permanently. He promised the staff that when the Casino's owner returned from Australia, it will begins its operations again.

King Crown Casino employed 359 Khmer staff who earn a salary range of $60, $80, $100, $120 to $500 per month for senior supervisors. It employed 75 Vietnamese, with the salary ranges of $80-$500 per months, 13 Chinese with a salary range of $200-$1000, 17 Indonesians with the pay ranging from $200-$1000, 2 Malaysians who getting paid between $500-$1000 and one Singaporean who get paid $1000 per month. The owner is named Sem Lem who is an Australian citizen.
