Another Cambodian logger killed by Thai soldiers

By Khmerization

Nineteen year-old Meas Ka-On from Tropeang Prasat district in Oddar Meanchey province has been shot dead on 7th December by Thai soldier after allegedly crossing the border to lod on the Thai side of the borders, reports Radio Free Asia.

Mr. Sim Seng, chief of Bak Anlong village, said Meas Ka-On was part of a group of 13 people trying to cross the borders when Thai soldiers started shooting indiscriminately at them and Meas Ka-On was hit and killed on the spot. The other 12 people returned home unharmed. He said the Cambodian authority had contacted the Thai side in which they promised to send the body of Meas Ka-On to his family in Cambodia.

Mr. Meas Hayly, father of the victim, said while he was waiting to receive the body of his son that he is very angry. "(We crossed the borders) because we are poor. He had crossed the borders 2-3 days ago through contacts with his friends and many people from the village also went. I am very upset, I tell you the truth, if we are allowed to go and retrieve my son's body and if I had the gun I would probably bring the gun with me, I tell you the truth", he said.

Many Cambodians had been killed by Thai soldiers in the past after they attempted to cross the borders. Since September 2009, 4 Cambodians had been killed by Thai soldiers. On 27 November, 19 year-old Sok Samnang was killed near O'Smach while picking wild mushrooms in the border areas. And on 11th September 2009, 16 year-old Yon Rith was allegedly wounded and burned alive by Thai soldiers.

At the same time, 24 Khmer Krom asylum-seekers had just arrived in Cambodia after being arrested and repatriated from Thailand.

The group was waiting for the UNHCR to interview them to determine their status when Thai police arrested them in Bangkok. After arriving in Cambodia, they appealed to the Cambodian authority to offer them political asylum and not send them back home to Vietnam for fearing that they will face persecutions.

We seriously need a new leader in Cambodia, the one who will protect the Khmer people and serves the country purely for national interests. We can't let these bastards or any of our neighbor stepping all over us...
If Cambodia is going to survive for our children and our children's children and more generations of Khmer people to come we all need to act now.... and educate our people and the young generations-everyone of must learn the history of our motherland- must keep in mind that no body loves us as much as we love ourself. Always be cautious of our neighbors, they are always have secret and future strategic plan for Cambodia-politically and economically for their benefits. So as leader of Cambodia one should always act for the national interests of people is the first priority. Always analyze what is best for our country and the people-POLITICALLY and ECONOMICALLY...

Hun Sen is a fucking power hungry and blood sucker from his own country and people. It is a modern world now therefore politics for national interests should change too.... he's fucking thinking short.... Does he care about the future of Cambodia and it's people. As a Khmer person each one of us should believe in heroes not power. Hun Sen should fucking step down...

Stop complaining ah kwack, remember you voted for him. We have been hearing the Thai shooting khmers many times but the issues have not been solved. Remember the words of mouth the next time the election come to whom you should vote for. If one does not do the job well, then choose a new one. That's is easy. You keep talking until you die, no body care if your leaders don't.

Many Cambodians get killed by Thai soldiers but we never heard Hun Sen or Cambodian government officials lodge any protests or condemn the Thai actions publicly.

But one Thai spy arrested by Cambodia, the whole Thai nation condemn Cambodia. It is time Hun Sen show that he care about the safety, welfare and the well-being of the Cambodian people.

In my country, it is strange that we have neber heard that Thai soldier shooted cambodian on the border line, what we always see is thai soldiers and khmer soldier and friends, they walked and patrolled on the same border. What is strange to me too is I agree with you that why your government protest Thai gov on shooting Cambodian people

Thee,

The Thai media and Thai government tried to hide the news about Thai soldiers killing Khmer civilians. It is a fact that Thai soldiers did kill Khmer people who crossed the borderlines.

The Thai media tried to report all the good news about Khmer-Thai relations. But at the same time blamed Cambodia and Cambodian leaders for all the tensions. The fact is that Thailand is the one causing all the tensions because without the Thai invasion of Preah Vihear on 15th July 2008, there won't be any problems between Cambodia and Thailand until today.
