Thai officials said Khmer migrant workers need not worry

By Khmerization

Thai Embassy officials have assured Cambodian migrant workers that the recent diplomatic spat between the two countries does not affect their employment status in Thailand, reports everyday.com.

The assurances from the Thai Embassy were made after families of Khmer migrant workers had expressed concerns about their employment status and safety after the diplomatic row between the two countries had erupted more than a week ago.

However, Mr. Orn Bun Hak, chairman of the Association of Recruitment Agencies, said the Thai Embassy had given assurances that Cambodian migrant workers who are currently working in Thailand and their families need not worry because after the diplomatic spat many Thai employers have taken care of the Khmer workers more than before.

He said, should situations become too unsafe for them, the Cambodian government has the ability to evacuate them within 24 hours as all recruitment agencies had already prepared the lists of the names of those employees.

Mr. Bun Hak said, currently there are 10,000 legal and 100,000 illegal Khmer migrant workers currently being employed in Thailand.
