Thai authority ordered the building of bunkers along Khmer-Thai border provinces

By Khmerization

Gen. Srey Doek (pictured), Cambodian commander of the Preah Vihear command, has told reporters that Thailand's Sisaket provincial authority had ordered the constructions of concrete and sand-bagged bunkers in areas located along the Khmer-Thai borders, reports everyday.com.

He said those bunkers had been built about three months ago. The general told the Cambodia Daily that, despite the constructions of bunkers on the Thai sides, the military situations on the borders remained calm. He said the Cambodian authority did not order the building of bunkers because it did not anticipate any armed conflict to occur.

IPS (Inter Press Service) recently reported that, so far the Thai authority had ordered the constructions of 340-350 bunkers in schools and community centres around Sisaket. IPS also reported that the Thai military had staged military and bunker drills in the areas.

However, in an terview with Deum Ampil, Gen. Chea Dara, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Cambodian Armed Forces who is the boss of Gen. Srey Doek, denied that the Thai side had built 350 bunkers as reported by the press. He added that those bunkers had been built 6-7 months ago. He further added that the present situations on the borders remain peaceful as troops from both sides had played sports together everyday.
