Prasat Pram falls into dereliction

By KhmerizationJustify Full
Prasat Pram (Five Temples), located in Kork Teap village, Teuk Cho commune in Preah Neth Preah district in Banteay Meanchey province, has fallen into dereliction during to years of civil wars, lootings and neglect, reports Koh Santepheap.

Prasat Pram, so named because the temple complex housed five temples, has received extensive damages due to bombings during the civil wars in the 1970s and 1980s. Nowadays, only two temples are still standing, while the other three temples had already been completely destroyed and dismantled by bombings and lootings.

Prasat Pram was built from mud stones and laterites and is about 40 metres by 40 metres in size. Today, 60% of the two temples and 90% of the other three temples had been destroyed. And the temples were surrounded by a moat which was dug to protect the temples from invading enemies.

Mr. Ly Sovannarith, governor of Preah Neth Preah district, said nowadays there are some local tourists who visited the sites for tourism, prayers and making food offerings to their ancestors during religious festivals. He is making an appeal to the provincial as well as Department of Fine Arts to help preserve and conserve as well as restoring the temples as our national heritage for future generations.
