Bhumjaithai Party de facto leader and banned politician Newin Chidchob on Monday called on fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra to ask the Cambodian government to release the Thai engineer who was arrested on spy charges.
The Cambodian police arrested 31-year-old engineer Siwarak Chothipong last Wedneday for allegedly stealing flight information of Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Sen and his new economic advisor Thaksin. Mr Siwarak was working for Cambodian Air Traffic Services (CATS).
"Thaksin is trusted by Prime Minister Hun Sen. He should use his close relationship with Cambodia to help the Thai engineer, if he still thinks he represents Thai people and considers himself a Thai person," Thaksin's former right-hand man Newin said.
Mr Newin said he will not phone Thaksin to beg for his help.
When reporters asked whether the House meeting was called off last week because many Puea Thai MPs visited Phnom Penh to meet Thaksin, Mr Newin said the next House meeting should be held in Cambodia's capital.
