The Cambodian Ministry of Justice said it will urge the Svay Rieng Provincial Court to summon opposition Sam Rainsy soon to ask him to answer all criminal charges of "destruction of public properties" that took place on 25th October, reports Radio Free Asia.

On 25th October, Mr. Rainsy led a group of 100 villagers to uproot six demarcation poles planted by Vietnam's authority in the middle of Cambodian farmers' rice-fields. On 16th November, Cambodian parliament stripped him off his parliamentary immunity to pave the way for the court to charge him.

Mr. Ang Vong Vathana, Minister of Justice, said at a press conference on the 16th of November the Svay Rieng Provincial Court will summon Mr. Rainsy after the parliament had stripped him off his immunity. "The prosecutor of the Svay Rieng Provincial Court, after the stripping off of Mr. Rainsy's immunity, will invite Mr. Rainsy to answer all the questions, not interrogations, we only want him to answer all the charges against him to see what are the nature (of the charges)? And collect all the evidences to continue the investigations", he said.

Mr. Keo Thea, prosecutor of the Svay Rieng Court, said he doesn't know when he will summon Mr. Sam Rainsy."I cannot tell you about any information yet because he has parliamentary immunity and it is up to the parliament and whatever it has decided I don't know yet, so I am unable to provide you with any information at this stage", he said.

Mr. Var Kimhong, Cambodian senior minister in charge of border affairs, said all the six demarcation poles uprooted by Mr. Rainsy have been panted there legally under the agreements between the Cambodian and Vietnamese governments. He denied charges that Cambodia had ceded territories to Vietnam. "In Svay Rieng province, Mr. Rainsy had led his party faithful to uproot the six border demarcation poles planted there to mark the spot for the permanent border pillar as our technical teams are still working out a correct spot to plant a permanent demarcation border pillar", he said.

Mr. Sam Rainsy said by telephone from Paris by condemning the charges against him. "Things are very strange in Cambodia nowadays. People who are loyal to the nation, loyal to the people face trouble, but the persons who destroy the nation, who sell out the nation get away (from punishment) and are still holding powers", he said.

Mr. Rainsy did not say when he will return to Cambodia to face the charges after his parlamentary immunity had been stripped on Monday 16th of November by the Cambodian People's Party-dominated National Assembly.
