The Thai Peua Thai opposition party has accused Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya of causing the current Khmer-Thai border disputes, a claim vehemently rejected by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.

Speaking on Thursday 1st October, Mr. Abhisit said during his short tenure as a foreign minister, Mr. Kasit had paid many official visits to Cambodia where he had fostered a good relationship with the Cambodian leaders. He added that Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen had told him during their meetings in the past that he will not allow the border disputes between the two countries to hinder the already strong co-operations between the two countries.

He said the border disputes have erupted when ex-foreign Minister Noppadon Pattama had signed a joint communique with Cambodian Deputy PM Sok An to pave the way for the inscription of Preah Vihear temple in the World Heritage List.
