A representative of the Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej (pictured) and about 100 Thai people living in Cambodia have on 15th October brought a Royal Kathen (a religious fundraising event) to Nirodh Raingsey Pagoda in Meanchey district of Phnom Penh, reports everyday.com.
According to Kampuchea Thmey newspaper, the Royal Thai Kathen has been presided over by the Cambodian Patriarch Tep Vong and attended by many Cambodian dignitaries.
Sources said that the Royal Thai Kathen was led by the Thai king representative Mr. Poksaknil Ubon and accompanied by the Thai Ambassador, Mr. Chaklothorn Thaowiboon.
The Kathen has raised 6,235,000 Cambodian riels ($1560), 33,100 in Thai Baht ($830) and $US8210.
These amounts include donations from Deputy PM Sok An (1,000,000 riels), Defence Minister Tea Banh (500,000 riels), Border Affairs Minister Var Kim Hong (500,000 riels) and tycoon-senator Ly Yong Phat (2,000,000 riels) as well as from many more private companies.
