The opposition Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) said it is opposed to the proposed Demonstration Laws which set strict conditions on the rules of demonstrations and protests, reports everyday.com.

The proposed Demonstration Laws, which is before the parliament, have provisions that ban demonstrators not do anything that can affect the freedom and the honour of other people, public orders and that can affect the national security.

Mr. Sam Rainsy, leader of the eponymous party whose party held many anti-government protests in the past, said that the ruling Cambodian People's Party introduced these provisions as means to restrict and ban demonstrations.

Speaking outside of parliament on Monday, Mr. Sam Rainsy said his party is opposed to these provisions in the laws because it gives the ruling party and the government excuses to ban democrats from holding peaceful demonstrations.

He said the proposed Demonstration Laws is a political tool of the ruling party and the government to oppress the people, land eviction victims, teachers and workers from holding protests. He said this Demonstation Laws is written as a pre-emptive strike to forewarn and to scare victims who dare or want to hold protests against injustices.
