Radio Free Asia Khmer Service still continue to sack more staff despite outrages from civil society and angry protests from its staff, reports Deum Ampil.
In late September, five staff staged a tyre-burning protest after one of its colleague, Ms. Sieng Sophorn, was sacked. The protesting staff, including Phan Sophath, Huy Vannak and Thai Sothea and two more staff were eventually sacked.
On Thursday, the 8th of October, Mr. San Suwidh was the seventh person to be sacked by RFA management.
All the sacked staff claimed that they were sacked because they dare to oppose and protest against RFA's Khmer Service director, Mr. Kem Sos and his deputy, Mr. Sam Poly. But RFA said that the staff were laid off due to the organisation's restructure after their contract had expired.
On Friday, RFA was due to appear before officials at the Ministry of Labour to answer the complaints lodged by the sacked staff that their sackings violated the Labour Laws. However, RFA has requested for a postponement.
