The Cambodian border troops have been ordered to be on high alert after they said they spotted the usual and secret movements of Thai troops a long the border after a war of words between PM Hun Sen and the Thai PM Abhisit Vejjajiva, reports Koh Santepheap.

According to Gen. Chea Dara, Cambodian Deputy Commander-in-Chief in charge of the Preah Vihear operations, as of 25th October the Cambodian troops at Preah Vihear are in ready combat gear to counter the Thai aggression while PM Hun Sen and Thai PM Abhisit traded barbs at the Asean Summit in Thailand.

Gen. Chea Dara said he and his commanders, including Maj-Gen. Yu Sirivudh, Maj-Gen. Srey Doek, Maj-Gen. Keo Samorn and Commander of Military Region Four, Brig-Gen. Chea Keo, have been instructed to be ready to use self-defence in the defence of Cambodia's sovereignty.

Koh Santepheap also reported that on 23rd October, Gen. Chea Dara had ordered the deployments of battle tanks and artillery pieces in readiness for the eventual invasion of Thai troops. As of 25th, Cambodian troops at Preah Vihear are still on high alert and entrenched in their positions.

Also on the morning of 25th October, Gen. Chea Dara had called a meeting of his commanders and gave strict order to defend the 4.6 km2 and the Five Makara Point areas claimed by Thailand.

The Cambodian troops have gone on high alert after the war of words between the PMs of the two countries and after a group of Thai ultra-nationalists demanded Cambodia troops withdraw from the areas of territories claimed by Thailand. Gen. Chea Dara told the Koh Santepheap that he was given strict orders by PM Hun Sen to defend every inch of Cambodian territories.
