THE government has warned Korean-language schools to stop radio promotions falsely claiming they could help students obtain employment in South Korea, a government official said.
Heng Sour, the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training official in charge of migrant-labour relations with South Korea, said Friday only the ministry’s Manpower Training and Overseas Sending Board could recruit and train Cambodian workers to work overseas.
The board, which was established in 2006 under a sub-decree, works with the Human Resources Development Service of Korea to facilitate work permits and monitor Cambodian workers in South Korea.
“No individual, NGO or Korean training school has the right to recruit and send workers to work in Korea,” Heng Sour said. “If they continue to announce they can organise work permits, we will cooperate with the relevant authorities to … temporarily shut them down.”
The ministry offered licences to 12 private training schools to teach short courses in foreign languages to prepare Cambodians for overseas work, but none were permitted to recruit, Heng Sour added.
