Mrs. Mu Sochua, MP for Kampot, who went to testify before the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission in the United States regarding human rights abuses in Cambodia has returned home to Cambodia on Friday (25th September) morning.

Deum Ampil News reported that Mrs. Mu Sochua had dodged waiting journalists by exiting through a VIP door, leaving unsuspecting journalists to swarm a decoy car waiting in the front door.

According to Mr. Yim Sovan, spokesman for the Sam Rainsy Party, Mrs. Mu Sochua is still an MP and that she is in the process of lodging an appeal to get back her parliamentary immunity. "Mrs. Mu Sochua continues to lodge an appeal to the Appeal Court (and) now she is waiting for the decision of the Appeal Court", he said.

Regarding Mr. Mu Sochua's security and personal safety, Gen. Khieu Sopheak, Interior Ministry spokesman, said she has nothing to fear. "She is like any normal citizen because she has not been given a parliamentary immunity by the parliament yet. I'm not worried about her (safety), but if she is worried then it is her problems. Actually, she is like 13-14 millions of our citizens, we protect everyone's safety", he said.

Mrs. Mu Sochua, along with Mr. Ho Vann, was stripped off her parliamentary immunity on 22nd June to pave a way for the court to charge her in relation to a defamation complaint lodged against her by Prime Minister Hun Sen. On 4th August, the Phnom Penh Court found her guilty of defaming Mr. Hun Sen and fined her 16.5 miilion riels ($8,500). She refused to pay the fines and lodged an appeal. On 10th September, she testified before the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission in the U.S about human rights abuses in Cambodia. After her testimony, a few U.S congessmen appealed to the Cambodian government to guarantee her safety once she returned to Cambodia.

She has proved that she is not easy to be trampled on. Hun Sen should think twice before taking her on next time.

But Hun Sen is a deceitful and cunning politician. Now he just wait for the political storm to settle down, then he will re-ignite his rage and madness against Mu Sochua again when he become schizophrenic again.
