A Thai official in Surin province in Thailand said the Surin provincial authority plans to invite Cambodian officials and representatives of Khmer farmers from Ouddor Meanchey province to visit Surin for a 4-day field study for the exchange of agricultural and cultural experiences along the borders.

Mr. Sowat Kaew Sook, advisor to Thai Embassy in Phnom Penh, told Radio Free Asia that Thailand's Surin province has very good relations with Cambodia's Ouddor Meanchey province and wanted to invite representatives of Khmer farmers from Anlong Veng, Tropeang Prasat and Banteay Ampil districts for a 4-day field study in Surin province. "We want them (Khmer farmers) to meet and talk with Thai farmers to exchange their experiences and to see (Thai) rice farms, vegetable farms and pig farms", he said.

Mr. Chhim Sivuthy, assistant to Ouddor Meanchey Governor, said after Ministry of Interior gave the green light the Ouddor Meanchey provincial authority has appointed Mr. Thol Nol, Governor of Samrong provincial town, to lead a delegation of provincial and farmers' representatives to visit Surin.

Mr. Thol Nol said the delegation will visit a home cotton weaving factory and a home silk factory in Surin province. He added that the delegation will also visit the Kuoy elephant breeding zoo. (The Kuoy people are original inhabitiants of the Surin areas who were master elephant hunters in the old days. They also speak Khmer).

An official from the Thai embassy said this is a second times such a delegation has been invited to Thailand's Surin province after 30 representatives of Khmer farmers had been invited to visit the province last year.
