A Cambodian Government official expressed optimism over Vietnamese investment in Cambodia, which has increased to over US$122 million in the first semester of 2009 despite concerns over the ongoing global economic downturn.
Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister (Mrs.) Men Samom, who met a Vietnamese business delegation on Friday at the Council for Development of Cambodia (CDC), said that Cambodian Government has encouraged and motivated foreign investors, including the Vietnamese, to come to Cambodia. “In the first semester 2008, investment in Cambodia was only US$20 million but later increased to US$122 million,” she said.
“The Cambodian Government prioritizes all investors because this is the way to lead to better economic growth in all private sectors,” she said. “We cooperate easily with Vietnamese investors in terms of bilateral and ASEAN cooperation.”
Cambodia Angkor Air was launched after the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) authorized to the Bank of Investment Development Vietnam (BIDV).
After a meeting with high ranking Cambodian officials, both Cambodian and Vietnamese investors—with 13 companies in attendance—signed an agreement.
