Phnom Penh - The son of an opposition parliamentarian was shot dead late Sunday in the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh. Yont Thauron, 25, the son of Yont Tharo, a member of parliament for the Sam Rainsy Party (SRP), was shot while returning from a wedding after the vehicle in which he was travelling was involved in a minor traffic accident.
Veteran SRP politician Son Chhay said the party is concerned the killing could have a political dimension.
"In the past, opposition members have been easy targets for (criminal acts)," he said.
But the city's police chief, Touch Narath, flatly rejected any suggestion of political overtones.
