Korea to build universities in every Cambodian province

Written by DAP NEWS

Cambodian PM Hun Sen welcomes Seo Byun Soo, chairman of Strategy and Finance Committee

of South Korea´s National Assembly, who proposes to establish a Korean university in Kampot Province.

The Korean Government on Friday pledged its willingness to help in the building of a university in every province in Cambodia in a bid to pave the way for provincial and rural development.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen had an official meeting with Seo Byun Soo, Chairman of strategy and Economic committee of South Korea, on Friday afternoon at the Cambodian National Assembly.

“Korean delegation officials told the premier he wished to help promote building universities and pave the way for a new village movement like Korea’s after the Korean War,” Ieng Sophallet, an assistant to the premier, told reporters after the meeting. “Soon Korea will create a private university in Kampot province,” Ieng Sophallet said. “The area of land for this new university will be donated by Meas Sophea, deputy chief of the Cambodian Armed Forces.” However, it is not clear yet when the university will open and how much will be spent.

The premier welcomed all Koreans to Cambodia, Ieng Sophallet said. “The premier needs to attract more investors to do business in Cambodia, and the premier told the Korean delegation to help attract Korean investors to do business in rural areas in Cambodia.”

Most Korean investments in Cambodia are in construction, infrastructure, banking, rural development and human resources.

Thank you Korea. Korea is a good example for Cambodia to follow. Korea came from a war torn background and now rises to be a top player in Asia. The determination by the government and its people to be peaceful, free, and prosper that lead to Korea's success, good karmas follows good attitudes. Cambodia should aim high and work very extra hard amongst the great nations that went through turmoils and became one of the great nation amongst the world elites. Cambodia should welcome any nation in the world that has good intention for the greater benefits of both nations. Cambodia is a very capable nation, nothing is impossible, given time and desires, Cambodia can be a major player in SouthEast Asia and the region. This is the only way to achieve the respect of the its neighbors and a true independent from foreign imperialism.

This is good news. The Cambodian government should have taken this initiative to build universities in every province a long time ago to give opportunities to the disadvantaged and poor kids who want to further their education.

Currently, most universities are located in Phnom Penh or important towns which make it hard for poor students to go to universities.
