Gen. Srey Doek, the Cambodian commander of the 3rd Division in charge of the Preah Vihear Command, has expressed optimism that the situation at Preah Vihear borders will return to normal to the pre-15th July 2008 situations, before Thai troops invaded the areas.

His optimism comes after Thai troops had dismantled all barbed wire fences and concrete posts they built in the frontlines of the disputed areas near Preah Vihear temple, after Cambodian troops strongly protested.

The general also said that all barbed wire fences and concrete posts installed in front of the Preah Vihear temple had also been removed. He said: "The pre-15th July 2008 situation will return very soon to replace the current tense situations between the two countries."

Gen. Srey Doek's optimism is in contrast with a Bangkok Post article which said that the 10 unarmed Thai soldiers based at Wat Keo Sekha Kirisvarak pagoda since 15th July 2008 had temporarily cancelled their overnight stay due to fears that they will become hostages after rising tensions between the two sides.
