The Cambodian government plans to hold a 3-day seminar from 9th August in Banteay Meanchey provincial town in an attempt to generate debate about the inscription of Banteay Chmar temple (pictured), located near the Khmer-Thai border in Banteay Meanchey province, in the Unesco World Heritage List.

Mr. Oung Oeun, Governor of Banteay Meanchey, said he hopes around 150 government officials and representatives from Unesco will make a trip to Banteay Chmar on Saturday 8th before attending the seminar the next day. Mr. Oung Oeun said Banteay Chmar is in a state of dereliction and the seminar is aimed at attracting Unesco's attention to the state of the temple, so that it will make efforts to help carry out the preservation works to repair the temple.

Banteay Chmar temple is situated about 20 kilometres from the Khmer-Thai border, but had suffered significant damages due to looting by thieves and years of neglect.

It is possible. Sdok Kok Thom is not far away from Banteay Chmar. It is in the hand of Thailand. Remember, most of statues at Banteay Chmar were looted and smuggled into Thailand.
