ilovekhmer.org debuted to counter the ilovethailand.org

Source: Deum Ampil newspaper and ilovekhmer.org
Reported in English by Khmerization

A Khmer website purported to counter the erroneous claims of the ilovethailand.org about Thai lost territories has debuted.

The ilovekhmer.org claimed that its existence was not to stir up nationalistic sentiments against any country, but rather to set the record straight about the historical facts in regard to territorial claims made by Cambodian neighbours.

Recently, a Thai website, ilovethailand.org, believed to be the official website of the Thai PM, posted a video which claimed that large parts of Cambodian territories are actually Thai territories. The claims drew outrage from Khmer bloggers as well as the Cambodian government. The video has now been removed from the website.

In its message to readers, the ilovekhmer.org said that the creation of the website was for the sole purpose of countering the "provably false accusations" made in the ilovethailand.org.

The website's message reads: "This website is not here to stir up nationalist tensions or cause problems of any kind. It is simply to provide internationally accepted facts to counter the provably false accusations initially made on the website ilovethailand.org."

The ilovekhmer.org had attracted great attention, with its counter showing more than 129 visitors at any one time. With just less than two days of its creation, more than 8570 visitors had surfed the site.

The comments below were posted in Bangkok Post Forum recently by Mr. Davan Long from Canada.......

Let’s give PM Abdhisit a chance ….. to do what, if I may ask? So far, it looks like he’s on a mission to tarnish Thailand image and credibility internationally. The way he came to power continues to divide the (Thai) nation and intrigue foreigners about Thai democracy; What about the ongoing Preah Vihear issue? His not-so-brilliant “Ilovethailand” website initiative turns out to be a complete fiasco. That website not only alienates China, Burma, Cambodia and Laos, but also jeopardizes Thai credibility on territorial claim and interpretation of history. Coincidentally, the world renown National Geographic magazine published a great article about the Khmer Empire in its July edition. That article clearly contradicted the claim made on PM Abdhisit’s “Ilovethailand” website. Sadly to say, the “Ilovethailand” has become “Ihumiliatethailand”.

We all as Khmer descents, born or live in the Khmer Kingdom are very proud to have had the great Ancestors. Of course we are very proud of your "iloveKhmer.org"

I find the idea of countering the Thai claim with a similar website "Ilove_xyz_.org" to be ridiculous and seems very immature like two little kids playing "Is too!" and "Is not!". Thai and Khmer people should have grown up beyond this level already.

Both are pathetic attempt to rouse up nationalist fervor and pride to serve a bigger gender beyond the control of the people who visit them.

Also Khmerization,

You seem to embodied the voice of democracy and hope or at least anti-government corruption for many Khmer youth, why then do you make your website postings to require your approval?

I hope you're only doing it to stop hate language and not stifling people of different opinion from you. Because if that was the case, there is no point in attacking Hun Sen.

Whatever your reason, I still believe an open forum is a better forum then a censored one.

5:57am,
Khmerization is not censoring any comments. The comments that need moderation are those over two days old. This is because in the past some readers were trying to talk to me in my old posts and I did not have a chance to provide answers to their questions because I don't know about those comments. I limit unmoderated comments to two days because I can track all the comments. After two days I can't track them any more so that's why I set those comments to moderation mode so I can track them.

Please be informed that, so far I have not rejected any comments that criticised me yet. I have rejected about one or two comments that used profanities, offensive languages and derogatory to criticise other readers. Any criticism, even if they are very strong ones, will be published. But any criticism or comments that use foul languages such as swearing or profanities will be rejected. Thanks for your suggestions here.

2:24pm, Thanks for your comments. Khmerization was created for the purpose of sharing information, not to make money. I have spent a lot of my free time to translate news for readers such as you for free. As such, I would hope that people would appreciate my selfless effort to translate and write news so people would get up-to-date news about Cambodia.

I regard to your complaint, I do not think that my Google Adsense would disrupt or annoy any readers, let alone cheating the readers as suggested by you. As I have provided news for free, I would hope that you would allow me to make a few dollars from Google Adsense.

5:03pm, Thanks for your support. Your support gives me a reason to continue my works to bring news for free to all readers. Thanks.
