The Cambodian population have been encouraged to fly Cambodian national flag as a national pride, a few days leading up to the first anniversary of the listing of the Preah Vihear temple by Unesco.
The Cambodian flag will be flown at government and public buildings as well as at public parks leading up to the first anniversary of the temple's inscription on 7th July. Pagodas and schools around the country have been told to beat the drums at 11 am on 7th of July to mark the first anniversary and as a national pride as well as to help lifting the morale of Cambodian soldiers who are facing Thai soldiers at the disputed borders.
In Phnom Penh, Governor Kep Chutema has ordered the Phnom Penh Authority to organise a big music concert on 7th July to mark the anniversary.
At the same time, Koh Santepheap reported that the military situations at the disputed borders are still tense. Tensions at Chak Chreng, Sombok Khmun, Ta Sem Pass, Phnom Trop, Veal Entry and at Wat Keo Sekha Kirisvarak pagoda are high at the same time as a Thai jet fighter flew over head three times in the same day.
Cambodian military sources said that Cambodian troops have been ordered to be on high alert in readiness to defend Cambodian sovereignty.
Both sides of the conflict have been trying to flex their muscles as Thai troops had staged several military exercises near the disputed borders, while Cambodian Prime Mr. Hun Sen was boasting that Cambodia had enough troops and weapons to counter the Thai aggression. The PM has been on the record as warning Thai planes not to violate the Cambodian airspace as Cambodian soldiers have been equipped with laser-guided anti-aircraft missiles. Mr. Hun Sen said that Cambodia had destroyed 270 of those missiles in the past years, but now he had re-equipped Cambodian soldiers with the missiles, even if they each cost $US200,000 to purchase.
