Sources said that Mr. Hang Chakra (pictured), editor of Khmer Machas Srok newspaper, has been arrested in Battambang province, reported Deum Ampil.
Mr. Hang Chakra was sued by the government for disinformation when he published a series of articles on official corruption.
On the morning of Friday 26th June, the Phnom Penh court fined him 9 million riels (US$2,500) and sentenced him to one year imprisonment.
News from Battambang indicated that Mr. Hang Chakra was arrested in Battambang at 12 noon on the same day. It appears that Mr. Hang Chakra was attempting to flee to Thailand via Battambang after he was sentenced.
