Cambodian officers: Thai commando forces not better than Thai black-clad soldiers

Cambodian and Thai military leaders shook hand one day after the 3rd April deadly clashes.

Reported by Khmerization

After several deadly armed clashes with the Cambodian troops, the Thai military had reinforced border areas with 1,000 Thai special commando forces. But many Cambodian military leaders claimed that those Thai commando forces are no better than the Thai black-clad and paramilitary forces, reports Deum Ampil newspaper.

According to Deum Ampil, Cambodian officers claimed that after the 3rd April deadly clashes, when the Thai black-clad and paramilitary forces were seen as weaker than the Cambodian forces, the Thai military had immediately sent 1,000 special commando forces to the Veal Entry frontlines, where the clashes took place.

Many Cambodian officers said that the Thai military claimed that their special commando forces were the best and brave units as they were highly trained and well-equipped. However, after some heightened tensions and confrontations, the Cambodian military assessed the Thai special commando forces as no better than those black-clad and paramilitary forces deployed there before them, says Deum Ampil.

The Cambodian officiers claimed that the Thai special commando forces or the red beret were new and inexperienced forces who know nothing about the geography of the areas.

Mr. Reach (Neang?) Phat, Secretary of State of Defence, said in a commemorative ceremony of the three dead soldiers from the 15th October 2008 clashes that Cambodia does not want to fight a war with her neighbours, but claimed that Cambodian soldiers are very experienced because they have gone through many years of wars in the past and because of their patriotism, reports Deum Ampil.

Mr. Reach Phat said: "What had been born out of patriotism will always succeed, even if the weapons they have are not as sophisticated as possessed by their adversaries."

He said that the Cambodian troops had engaged in several deadly armed clashes with Thai troops because of self-defence to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity, says Deum Ampil.
