Outlawed former premier Thaksin Shinawatra said in an interview with CNN that he supported 'true democracy' and was ready to return to Thailand when peace was restored.
He claimed that the army and government lied to the people that no live bullets were fired into the red-shirts. He claimed that real bullets were fired into the protesters, killing some of them.
His statement came after army spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd said that Thaksin's followers were tryng discredit the army by saying that several protesters were killed. Col Sansern said the Narenthon EMS Centre, which handles all major emergencies, reported that no protesters died.
Thaksin said while he intended to return when Thailand has 'true democracy', he would not being going back just yet.
He then he denied all corruption charges, saying they were just the undemocratic procedures used to justify his removal from office in 2006.
