Cambodian military officers inspected the damages at the temple's staircases and the burnt out market.

The Cambodian military said that border situations near Preah Vihear temple remained tense and confrontational after Thailand had sent hundreds of special commando forces to the areas, reported Radio Free Asia.
Mr. Var Kimhong, chairman of the Cambodian Border Committee, said that the meeting between Thai and Khmer border officials scheduled for 6-7 April will go ahead, despite the deadly clashes.
But he accused Thai troops of deliberately shooting at the temple staircases and at houses of the villagers and a market which were burnt down in violations of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2000. He said that one of the agenda in the 6-7 April meeting will be the demand for a total Thai troop withdrawal from the areas surrounding the Preah Vihear temple, reports RFA.
He said: "In order to avoid clashes, all troops must be withdrawn from the areas like inside the pagoda, around the pagoda and inside the temple. We must maintain the status quo, we cannot just violate other country's territorial integrity whenever we like. I believe that Thailand is a law-abiding country, but why it did not respect the laws and deliberately shooting at the temple's staircases which caused the market to burn down and damaged the temple staircases?"
Other areas near the temple also remained tense on Saturday (4th). A Cambodian soldier based at the frontline at Veal Entry said that at 10 am, more than 100 Thai special commando troops had moved in to the spots near the clash sites. He said: "They are rotating their troops and their commando forces had arrived since the early morning."
More than 200 Cambodain families had been evacuated from the vicinity of the temple since 5 pm on Friday.
At Choan Sa-Ngam in Anlong Veng district of Ouddor Meanchey province, a Cambodian border policeman said that many Cambodian troops had been deployed along the borders in the areas while the situations in Preah Vihear remained tense. He said: "The numbers of our troops that have been sent last night are enough. We are on high alert and ready to fight. We just wait for the orders only. They (Thais) have also reinforced their troop numbers to the areas as well."
Cambodia claimed that during the clashes at Veal Entry and at Phnom Trop on Friday the 3rd of April the Cambodian side had suffered no casualties. However, Cambodian military sources in the areas claimed that 22 Thai troops had been killed and 30 were wounded. These Cambodian claims differed from the Thai claims which put their casualties as 2 dead and 1o wounded, reported RFA.
