Reported by Khmerization
21st April, 2009
At least between 700-800 tourists have come to visit Preah Vihear temple each day during the three days Khmer New Year and some 15-20 foreign tourists even asked for permission to stay at the temple overnight, reports everyday.com.
But there were no souvenir or food stalls to cater for the tourists because the markets and the villages located nearby were burnt down during the fighting between Khmer and Thai troops on 3rd April, 2009.
Most of the tourists came from various provinces and Phnom Penh.
Mr. Hang Soth, chairman of National Preah Vihear Authority, said that there were between 15-20 international tourists who had asked for permission to sleep in their hammocks overnight at the temple and the permission was granted.
It must be noted that, since the armed clashes on 3rd April 2009, there are no villagers or people staying overnight at the temple, reports everyday.com.
