Armed clashes between Cambodian and Thai troops in the Preah Vihear areas had resulted in heavy casualties.

According to Radio Free Asia's reports, fightings broke out twice at 7:15 am and around 2 pm on 3rd April in several areas, including Veal Entry, Phnom Trop, Sombok Khmum and Preah Vihear temple.

An anonymous Cambodian soldier said that during the 4o minutes of heavy fightings, the Cambodian troops had captured 20 Thai border posts two kilometres west of Veal Entry. He said: "They raised the white flags at 2:40 pm. They have suffered heavy casualties, both dead and wounded, double the last death toll. They are evacuating the dead by helicopters. We have captured all their positions, we have reached their barracks and captured all 20 army posts."

A Cambodian police officer said that houses of Khmer villagers and a market on the staircase of the temple had been destroyed and burnt by Thai artillery shellings. He said: "TheThai shelled with 60 milimetre shells until the market is burnt down. I run until my ankle got injured, to escape from the shelling. They fired from a 12-milimetre gun with bullets coming out like the fingers".

Gen. Srey Doek, commander of the Preah Vihear precinct, downplayed the seriousness of the fightings and said that both sides are trying to resolve the issue peacefully. He said: "We are trying to talk peace. There is no problem. It is normal".

According to unofficial Cambodian source, during the clashes at Veal Entry which erupted at 7:10 am, two Thai soldiers were killed and 4 wounded.

The clashes on 3rd April 2009, erupted at the same locations as the armed clashes on 15th October 2008 that killed 3 and wounded 2 Cambodian soldiers as well as killing 3 and wounding 5 Thai soldiers.

Nobody like war, but in this case it is necessary because Thai troops keep on encroaching Khmer territories everyday.

Cambodian soldiers should shoot at Thai troops every time they encroached on Cambodian territories.

If Khmer soldiers entered Thai territories Thai soldiers will shoot them. So in this case I support Khmers soldiers to shoot at the Thai soldiers because they want to steal our territories.
