Cambodian military sources claimed that Thailand had used planes and satellite technology to spy on Cambodian military activities along the borders in the Dangrek Mountain ranges.
Col. Sao Savy, commander of Cambodian Engineering Unit, said that Thai troops had violated Khmer territories many times and that Thai planes had also violated Cambodian airspace on a number of occasions. On top of this, Thailand had sent human spies and satellite equipments to spy on the military activities of the Cambodian military.
Col. Sao Savy said that the evidences are overwhelming. Many human Thai spies had been captured on numerous occasions by Cambodian border guards and spy planes have flown over Cambodian airspace many times before. Just on 19th March, one alleged Thai spy had been captured by Cambodian border police. On 3rd March, Thai planes had flown very low over Cambodian airspace three times. And in O'bok One district, Thailand had used satellite equipments to take photographs of Cambodian military activities in the region.
Lt-Gen. Kwan Seam, commander of the Cambodian Engineering Unit, who went to conduct a feasibility study for road constructions and to evaluate the military situations in the provinces of Banteay Meanchey, Ouddor Meanchey and Preah Vihear from 20th-24th March, said the military situations along the border are very volatile and that the Cambodian territories are vulnerable to Thai violations.
Gen. Kwan Seam said that the role of the Engineering Unit is to build roads and to build military barracks for border soldiers and their families.
He said that the Engineering Unit is in the process of building 80 kilometres of roads along the Khmer-Thai border, starting from Thmor Puok district in Banteay Meanchey province to Ta Krabey temple in Banteay Ampil district of Ouddor Meanchey province.
Because the funds are limited, the Ministry of Rural Development had prioritised the road constructions to three stages. First, the construction of road from Krolor district to Choup Svay which has a distance of 17 kilometres in length. Second phase will start from Choup Svay district to the west of Ta Moan Thom temple which has a distance of 32 kilometres in length and the final phase is from Ta Moan Thom temple to east of Ta Krabey temple which has a distance of 30 kilometres.
Please note that there are 700 Cambodian families who have settled and scattered along the way in the areas. These families, most of them are families of the border soldiers, have come from far away provinces and have settled here in an anarchic way and which have been neglected by the local authority in the past.
