While more than 100 Thai troops still remained at Veal Entry, the scene of the armed clashes on 15th October 2008 that seen four dead, had not been withdrawn, Thailand is today sending another 30 additional troops to the area.
At 1:45 pm on 25th March, 100 Thai troops moved to occupied Veal Entry and immediately were confronted by Cambodian troops who guarded the area who demanded them to leave, but the Thai troops refused to withdraw.
Cambodian military sources said that at 9:30 am today, another 30 additional Thai troops had been reinforced to the area. The sources said that the Thai told them that they will withdraw only after the regional military leaders from both had agreed in writing, who are due to meet at Sombok Khmum (Beehive) near Preah Vihear temple or at the Preah Vihear provincial town.
Mr. Bun Thean, Cambodian deputy commander for the Phnom Trop precinct near Veal Entry, said that both sides had taken up position and are on high alert. He said that yesterday, the Thai side had pointed guns at the Cambodian side when the Cambodian soldiers yelled to request them to withdraw from the area.
Mr. Bun Thean added that the Cambodian side had not taken any military measures against the Thai troops as they are waiting for orders from the higher authority.
He said that regional military leaders on both side are still negotiating, but he added that the Cambodian side strongly insist that Thailand withdraw their troops from the area.
